The problem
Retail chains needed real-time visibility into store operations without staff watching CCTV feeds all day.
The approach
A CCTV-based monitoring system doing zone-based video analytics: footfall tracking, incident detection, automated alerts and daily operational reporting through a dashboard.
The constraint that shaped the build was hardware: stores already have cameras, and replacing them is not on the table. Everything had to run against existing feeds of varying quality, framing and lighting.
Analysis is zone-based rather than frame-based. An operator marks the areas that matter — entrance, aisle, counter — and the system reasons about what happens inside them. That is what turns raw detections into something a store manager can act on, rather than a stream of bounding boxes.
Alerts are the product. Detection accuracy only matters if the right person hears about the right thing quickly, so the alerting path — thresholds, routing, and suppressing the noise that makes people mute a channel — got as much attention as the models.
